The Queensland and Australian Governments fund projects in the Mackay Whitsunday region to improve water quality throughout its catchment areas.

Current projects

The Queensland Government currently has a number of sugarcane extension support projects being delivered throughout the Mackay and Whitsunday region.
These projects are providing support to growers to improve the productivity and profitability of their farms.

Current water quality extension projects are being delivered in the Mackay Whitsunday by:

• Resource Consulting Services (RCS)
• Farmacist
• Reef Catchments (Proserpine region only)

Future projects

The Australian Government has advised of a new water quality project currently in development which will be available in the Mackay Whitsundays. A press release can be found on the Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water website.

Past projects

Between 2020 - 2024 the Mackay Whitsunday Water Quality Program was funded by the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. Information on individual projects can be found below.
